    Voices of Central Ontario (VOCO) is sponsoring an essay contest for all high-school-age students (19 years of age or under) residing in the City of Kawartha Lakes.

    All eligible students are invited to submit an essay on the topic “Democracy: is it really worth it?”

    Entries may be emailed to (with subject: Essay Contest), or mailed to

    • Entrants must be residents of the City of Kawartha Lakes, 19 years of age or younger.
    • Entries should be no longer than 600 words.
    • Entries will be judged on the basis of original thought and literary style. (Formal essay structure is not necessary).
    • Mailed entries must be postmarked not later than May 14, 2004
    • Please include your name, address and telephone number with your entry.
    • VOCO reserves the right to publish the winning entry in a local newspaper.
    • We cannot return any manuscript to the sender.
    • Winners will be announced on or before June 14, 2004
